NuruTrace Labs Limited

About

Blockchain intelligence with African context and global reach.

NuruTrace Labs Limited is a private company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2015 of Kenya. We were founded to close the gap between how fast digital value moves and how slowly institutions can follow it.

Mission

Transparency, accountability and trust in digital finance.

We identify, analyse and monitor suspicious cryptocurrency activity linked to money laundering, terrorism financing, fraud and other illicit financial networks. We do it through a combination of data analytics, blockchain forensics and education, because tooling without trained people changes nothing.

Founded in Kenya with a global outlook, we work with institutions, investigators, regulators and security stakeholders who need on-chain evidence they can rely on. The regional context is not incidental to that work. The rails, the off-ramps and the typologies here are specific, and being close to them is an analytical advantage.

How we work

The commitments behind the analysis

Independence

We do not hold, transfer or safeguard client virtual assets, and we do not take a share of anything recovered. Our conclusions are not improved by a particular outcome, which is the only basis on which an expert opinion is worth anything.

Documented method

Every finding records how it was reached, what it rests on, and how confident we are. If our reasoning cannot be reproduced from our preserved working, we do not consider it a forensic product.

Discretion

We do not publish client names, case details or investigation outcomes, and we do not use live matters as marketing. Where you see our work described, it is described in the abstract.

On our own regulatory position

The Virtual Asset Service Providers Act licenses ten activities, among them exchange, custody, wallet provision, transfer, token issuance and investment advice. NuruTrace does none of them. We do not exchange, transfer or safeguard virtual assets for clients. We do not hold client funds. We do not advise anyone on what to buy, hold or sell. The firm was built to sit outside that perimeter, and knowing exactly where the line runs is part of what clients pay us to understand.

People

The founders

NuruTrace was founded by two people who kept meeting the same gap from different directions, and decided it was worth building a company to close it.

Michael Calvin Omondi
Michael Calvin OmondiCo-founder · Compliance and Operations

Michael holds a degree in Economics and Finance from Kenyatta University, trained as a software developer at Power Learn Project Academy, and completed the University of Nicosia's Mastering Web3 programme with a perfect score. His background is in traditional finance, in a function built around scrutinising records, questioning whatever failed to reconcile, and following a trail until it explained itself. That is the discipline NuruTrace applies to a public ledger.

Abel B. Otieno
Abel B. OtienoCo-founder · Legal and Regulatory

Abel is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He trained at the Kenya School of Law and practises at AA Advocates. At NuruTrace he carries the legal and regulatory side: reading the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act against the way a business actually operates, and the questions of evidence and procedure that decide whether analysis survives a courtroom.
