Blockchain technology solutions

Applied distributed ledger work beyond financial crime, in the narrow set of cases where a ledger genuinely solves the problem better than a database would.

Most problems presented to us as blockchain problems are not. They are coordination problems, or data quality problems, or trust problems between institutions that would be better addressed by an agreement than by a ledger. We say so, because the alternative is building an expensive system that solves nothing.

Where a distributed ledger is genuinely the right answer, it is usually because several parties who do not fully trust one another need a shared record that none of them can quietly alter. That is a real category, and it is smaller than the market suggests.

What this includes

  • Provenance and supply chain traceability across multiple organisations
  • Record integrity where tamper evidence is a regulatory or clinical requirement
  • Public sector data applications requiring shared, auditable state
  • Technical due diligence on distributed ledger proposals and vendors
  • Independent assessment of whether a ledger is the right tool at all

How it runs

We start with the problem rather than the technology, and the first deliverable is an honest answer on whether this needs a ledger. If it does not, that assessment has saved you considerably more than it cost. If it does, we design for the institutional realities of who operates it and who pays for it in year five.

What you receive

  • A clear recommendation on whether a distributed ledger is warranted
  • Architecture and design where it is
  • Independent technical due diligence on proposals from other vendors
  • A realistic view of operating cost and governance over time

Worth knowing

We are selective on this line and we develop it with institutions committed to long horizons. Pilot projects that end when the funding round ends are not useful to anybody.
